Talking to the journalists, Ross Murray advises to evaluate preliminary knowledge of the interlocutors, not to confront them with too much information and terminology, and to give it as much as the interlocutor is ready to absorb. Besides, one should remember, mass media is a communication tool with society, so it is important to express oneself the way the audience understands the spokesperson.
Communicative director of GLF Ukraine Aliona Shnorin discussed with the training participants those questions and prejudices that a journalist comes to LGBT community members with. Editorial instructions of journalists were discussed and how they usually influenced the resulting looks of interviews, as well as ways of making yourself safe of twisting and taking words out of the context.
At the end of the training the counselors participated in so-called “aquarium” exercise. Two training participants tried on the roles of a counselor and a caller with gender identity issues. The rest of participants made assessment of the counselor’s mistakes and her wise decisions and then discussed what way of holding a conversation would be most tactful.
A friendly breast physician conducted the second training. The health of the breasts, disease prevention and risk factors were among the topics discussed. Late diagnosis of diseases presents one of the biggest problems in breast care. Therefore, particular attention was paid to the initial symptoms of the diseases, diagnostics of benign and malignant neoplasm, and importance of the breast self-examination, what women often don’t give a due weight. According to statistics, 16000 cases of breast cancer occur each year in Ukraine.

The videos will be used solely for the selection; they will be watched only by the selection panel. We will invite 20 participants to the training. The registration is open until 23rd of March.
